Moderator Profile

Majid Shabbir is the moderator of this forum www.bsoforum.com. He is a sMajid2enior level management professional and has diversified experience and knowledge of private sector development. He serves as the Secretary General of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and has over 20 years of experience in chambers formation, professional management and development. He has represented at many national and international forums.

He specializes in chambers’ formation,  strategic planning,  financial management, development, institutional capacity building, trainings and consultancy.

He has organized a large number of conferences/seminars/roundtables, entrepreneurship development programs and created strong liaison between public/private sector organizations, academia and diplomatic missions for trade and investment promotion and developing strong linkage between industry and academia.

Recognizing the importance of bringing young entrepreneurs into leadership roles, Shabbir helped establish the Young Entrepreneurs Forum (YEF) at the Islamabad Chamber to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship among the country’s youth and to create thinking for being job creators instead of job seekers.

To augment YEF in 2011, he created the Entrepreneurship Development
Center in collaboration with Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE)
at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry. This center is the source of information and a platform for the university graduates that as to how they can start a business and play an active role for promoting the culture of entrepreneurship through trainings and mentorship programs.

In 2012, he helped in creating and implementing the idea of anti-corruption survey.  A report on “Un-Packing Corruption” was prepared in collaboration with CIPE to gauge opinion of the businessmen on corruption perceptions, manifestations, causes, effect and remedies in the business environment of Pakistan.

He as trainer has conducted training programs on membership development, advocacy, legal compliances, effective committees, teamwork etc. From International Finance Corporation, World Bank he has also received certification for conducting professional training programs.

Shabbir being consultant has also helped Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry Peshawar in its advocacy campaign on “Entrepreneurship Development Policy for the Women of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa – a province dominated by Taliban”. He has also helped in forming new chambers/associations.

He has provided legal assistance in creating Pakistan Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PAJCCI). The objective of PAJCCI’s formation was to promote the two-way trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He is the Editor of monthly magazine of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Shabbir is the co-author of a book “SOP Guide for Business Associations” which shall be published soon with the support of CIPE.
